Guidelines for Reviewers of JBPH (Journal of Public Health)
1. Benefits for Reviewers
Reviewers of JBPH enjoy the following benefits:
- Earn a 10% discount on the Article Processing Charge (APC) for each completed peer review. Discounts add up, so multiple reviews can lead to a 100% APC waiver.
- Receive a Certificate of Reviewing for each manuscript reviewed.
- After completing several reviews, PhD holders with strong academic backgrounds can apply to join our Editorial Board.
2. Role and Responsibilities of Reviewers:
- Provide a fair, unbiased, and timely assessment of manuscripts to help authors improve their work.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the manuscript content and the review process.
- Identify ethical concerns, including plagiarism, data fabrication, or undisclosed conflicts of interest.
3. Declining a Review Invitation Reviewers should decline to review a submission when they:
- Have a current submission to JBPH with any author.
- Collaborate or have recently collaborated with any author.
- Have a close personal connection to any author.
- Have a financial interest in the subject of the work.
- Feel unable to be objective.
If any potential conflict of interest arises, reviewers must inform the editorial office immediately and decline the review.
4. Confidentiality and Ethical Considerations
- Reviewers must not share the manuscript or discuss its contents with others without permission from the journal editors.
- Unpublished materials in the manuscript must not be used for personal research or disclosed to third parties.
- If a reviewer suspects ethical misconduct, they should report it to the editorial office with detailed observations.
5. Review Process and Criteria Reviewers should evaluate the manuscript based on the following criteria:
- Originality: Does the study provide new insights or contribute significantly to the field?
- Scientific Rigor: Are the study design, methodology, and analysis appropriate and well-explained?
- Clarity and Organization: Is the manuscript well-structured and clearly written?
- Relevance: Is the study relevant to public health and the journal’s scope?
- References: Are the citations appropriate, up-to-date, and properly formatted?
6. Providing Feedback
- Comments should be specific, constructive, and polite.
- Major concerns should be clearly highlighted with suggestions for improvement.
- Reviewers should distinguish between essential revisions and minor corrections.
- If a manuscript is deemed unpublishable, reviewers should provide detailed reasons to justify their recommendation.
7. Timeliness Reviewers should complete their reviews within the specified timeframe. If a delay is expected, they should notify the editorial office as soon as possible.
8. Final Recommendation Based on the evaluation, reviewers should recommend one of the following:
- Accept as is
- Minor revisions required
- Major revisions required
- Reject
The final decision on publication is made by the journal editors, considering reviewers’ feedback.
Acknowledgment of Reviewers JBPH appreciates the valuable contributions of its reviewers. Their efforts enhance the quality and credibility of the journal’s publications. Periodic acknowledgments may be made in the journal’s website or special announcements.
